Poseidon became the god of seas and rivers when Zeus, Hades, and himself split up creation. Poseidon was often found in the waters of Mount Olympus. He ruled all the water of Mount Olympus including the things in the water as wall as the things on the water. For example, he ruled the animals in the water and the ships on the water.

Poseidon was the god of floods and earthquakes. Poseidon became the god of floods and earthquakes because he would create them when he got angry. Poseidon would strike the ground with his trident which would cause the floods and earthquakes. This gave him the nickname "Earth Shaker". He would do this to get revenge on other gods and demi gods.

Poseidon was the god of horses because he created the horse. He created the horse in attempt to impress Demeter. The horse was said to be created by Poseidon striking a rock with his trident.
